But you can’t do what you have always done. You can’t be who you’ve always been. If you are, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always had.

The truth is, you’ve got much more inside you than you’ve ever thought possible.

Let me explain.

I was watching Stan Lee’s Superhumans television show today. Stan is the creator of many of the great superheros we’ve all come to know and love like Spiderman, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, etc. His show is about finding people who have superhuman powers. Each person is put through a rigorous set of scientific tests to test their abilities.

Today a guy using just his grip held back two airplanes at full throttle. He literally stopped them from taking off. There was also a shaolin monk who exerted 200 pounds of pressure on a drill while the drill was pressed against his stomach, then his neck and then his head. In other words, he turned a drill on and placed it in those three areas and pressed with that much force and he barely had a scratch.

Now, why did I write that? More importantly, what does it have to do with your success in life or your success in business?

Everything!

What the Shaolin Monk did was channel his energy (chi) so powerfully and with such focus that he experienced his body as an impenetrable force. And it was.

You are so much more powerful than you know. You can do so many more things than you’ve ever done. You can make more money than you’ve ever made. You can have better relationships than you’ve ever had. You can be happier than you’ve ever been. The list goes on and on.

Just imagine f you concentrated your energy even to a tenth of the degree that the monks can do. What would you accomplish? How long would it take you to be successful? Do you think you would reach your goals faster? Of course you would.

Now, this isn’t some pie in the sky, wishful thinking blog. You really can achieve things you’ve never believed possible. You really can produce amazing results faster and easier than anytime in the past.

So, what is it you want to do? Do you want to start a business? Do you want to write a book? Do you want to change your career? Do you want to lose weight? It really doesn’t matter.

With the power of concentrated focus and the belief in yourself and in what you’re attempting to accomplish, there’s virtually no limit to what you can do.

How many times have you gotten an insight, gained a new awareness, realized something, became motivated and even had a breakthrough, only to come tumbling down and end up worse than you were before? If you’re looking for breakthroughs, you’ve come to the wrong place. Breakthroughs don’t last. They are temporary states of change. Motivation doesn’t last. It’s only temporary as well.

Let’s say you have this marvelous breakthrough, then what? If you haven’t dealt with the core problem, the hole you created when you “broke through” will quickly close up. Why? Because it has to. It will fill up with your old patterns, your old beliefs, your old barriers, your old blocks. It will fill up with your old paradigms, perceptions and positions and everything will remain the same.

Have you ever known people who have taken personal development work or gone to therapy or bought every book and every tape they could get their hands on to improve themselves? Year after year they repeat this same process, but their life still isn’t working and so they continue the process in a desperate hope to find something that will finally put an end to their pain.

The problem is that looking for more and more insights keeps you addicted to that process. You become and insight junkie and you begin to look for things that are not even there. You may go so far as to create them. You then may begin to think (unconsciously) that you can’t pursue your dreams because there are things to work on and once they are cleared, you will be unstoppable. It’s all B.S. It won’t happen. The bottom line is that you are either going to pursue your dreams or you’re not.

Fixing what you think is wrong with you is about the past. As long as you are working on the past, you will not be moving your life forward. Figure out what you want your future to be and then go to work on that.

So, how do you go way beyond motivation and inspiration and totally transform your life and be a success in business? Do the following exercise and watch what happens.

Picture yourself in the future. See exactly where you want to be, how much you want to be making, where you want to be living, what you want to be doing, who your friends are, how exciting and passionate and joy-filled your life is. Write it all down in the present tense as the mind doesn’t know the difference. Don’t just say I am now making lots of money. Say, “I now quickly, easily, joyfully and with a lot of fun, bring in $________.00 a month.

The last step in the process of being successful is execution or action.

It doesn’t matter how Focused you are, how great your Attitude is, your level of Responsibility or how Committed you are, without Execution, all the rest of the steps are useless.

Everything boils down to execution, but not just any action, the correct action. So if you want to be successful in business, you’ve got to take massive, consistent, laser- focused action. As Mary O’Connor says, “It’s not so much how busy you are, but why you are busy. The bee is praised. The mosquito is swatted.”

Yet, so many people don’t take action. They do everything it takes, but they fall short in the action taking department.

The question is why.

Maybe they’re afraid of success or they’re afraid of failure or they’re afraid of the unknown or of the change that will happen in their lives.

Well, if you pay attention to your fears, all you’ll end up with are your fears and a whole bunch of stress, anxiety, doubt and emotional pain. So when your fears come up, realize that you have a choice. You can either pay attention to them and get stuck or you can pay attention to what you want and where you’re going. The difference will be like comparing a flea to an elephant.

So, assuming you’re ready to take action, what action do you take?

You take the action that is going to move your business ahead in the most productive, efficient way possible. You look at the big picture and you see the completion of your goal or project and you work your way backwards to the beginning.

You figure out what’s most important to get done each day and then you do those tasks until they’re complete. And make sure you don’t get lost in all of the tiny things that can come up and let them sidetrack you. Do the big things. Do the major things and often times the minor things will take care of themselves.

“Don’t measure busywork. Don’t measure activity. Measure accomplishment. It doesn’t matter what people do as much as it matters what they get done.” – Larry Winget

The bottom line is this. Your life is far too important for you to settle for less than your heat’s desires. You are too valuable to not have what you want. Your success is really your command. And if you are Focused, have a whatever it takes Attitude, are 100% Responsible for everything in your life, Committed to the outcomes you want and Execute everything properly, you will be successful and you will achieve that success faster, easier and you’ll have a lot more fun in the process.

She is involved. On the other hand, a pig is your bacon, your sausage, your ham. In other words, a pig is your breakfast and therefore that makes the pig quite committed. Like the pig, you have to be 100% committed to whatever you’re doing. Actually, if you’re not 100% committed, you’re not committed at all. Commitment is an all or nothing game.

There’s an old saying that goes like this. “A chicken is involved with your breakfast, but a pig is committed.” Now when you think about that, very quickly you should realize that all a hen has to do is lay an egg.

If you don’t believe me, just be 99% committed to standing up if you’re sitting down. If you stood up, you’re 100%.

So, what is commitment and why do so many people have a hard time with it?

Well, the best definition I’ve ever heard for commitment was told to me by an elementary school student. He said, “A commitment is a promise you make to yourself or someone else that you don’t back out of no matter what.”

Think about that. Imagine you lived your life from that perspective. What would change? Imagine you applied that philosophy when you were going on a diet, setting new goals, running your business.

It’s safe to assume that your life would change in some dramatic ways. You’d be wealthier. You’d be healthier. You’d be happier. You’d be more successful. You’d be more fulfilled, satisfied and that’s the tip of the iceberg.

So, with so many benefits to committing, why do so many people shy away from it?

To begin with, commitment takes effort. It takes work. It takes time. It takes courage. It takes dedication, determination and desire. It takes a lot. Sometimes people believe that the price they’ll have to pay is too high.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Settling for less than your heart’s desire has a higher cost than commitment ever could.

Some people fear the results they’ll get if they commit. That is, they fear success and they fear failure. Well, either one of those, or both could happen. What’s guaranteed is that if you don’t commit to your dreams, your goals, your future… you most certainly will fail. If you do commit and don’t reach it, your actions may have failed, but you are not a failure. So, don’t take it personally.

And finally, when you commit, all kinds of things show up that would not otherwise show up to support you. Some of those things may look negative and in fact, may be very negative, but it comes with the territory. If you want the results, you’ve got to pay the price.

Take the Freedom Riders of 1961 for example. Men and women of all races and ages and ethnicities decided they were going to ride buses into the deep south to peacefully protest the Jim Crow laws and put an end to segregation. They all knew that they had a good chance of being beaten, being arrested and most likely, being killed.

Yet, they signed on the dotted line and they signed their last wills and testaments and got on the bus. They were committed to freedom and they were willing to pay any price to have it… even their own life.

As a result of their commitment to freedom and racial equality and love and non-violence, the United States became more united. All the Whites Only and Colored signs were taken down all throughout the southern U.S. And so much more.

There are countless examples of what commitment is and what it does. From Gandhi and Mother Theresa, to Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, to Tank Man, an anonymous man who stood in front of a column of Chinese tanks, the morning after the Chinese military forcibly removed protestors from in and around Beijing‘s Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989. The question is, what are you going to commit to?

Since you can’t succeed in business without commitment, you might as well realize that now and start taking the appropriate action.

I’ll take more about that in the next issue.

The third step in being truly successful in business or in life is to be 100% responsible for everything you do.

Need I say more?

The truth is that you are responsible, even if you don’t think you are. You are responsible even if you don’t want to be. There is no escaping responsibility. Since that’s the case, you might as well make it work for you.

Take the results you have in your business. If you’re not as productive as you want to be, if you don’t have the success you want, if you don’t have the money you want, if you don’t have the time freedom you want, there’s a reason… and it’s easy to find.

Just look at in those areas where you’ve avoided responsibility and where you have made excuses and where you have given up or settled. And then reverse them. Now that concept sounds great, but how do you make it a reality?

Well, that goes to the biggest point of all about responsibility. When you do this first, everything else starts to naturally fall in place.

Take 100% responsibility for you. You are your number one responsibility. You are the most important person. Now I’m not talking about your ego and a false sense of self-importance. I’m talking about the truth of you. That truth is that you are magnificent, terrific, fabulous, awesome, amazing, divine, talented and you are priceless.

You couldn’t be any other way. How do I know this? Simple.

Just look back at when you were a baby? When you were going, “Goo Goo, Ga, Ga” the whole world revolved around you. And you knew it. Everyone doted on you and loved you just because you were you and not for any other reason.

Then as you got a little older, some negative programming crept in. Maybe your parents told you that you couldn’t have some candy. Maybe your sibling started to pick on you. Maybe you didn’t get the attention you wanted from your parents. Maybe you got picked on at school.

You get the idea.

Well those experiences began to program you for failure because after having so many repeated experiences, you started to believe them. And then after years and years of those beliefs and experiences, they became you.

Well, I’m here to tell you right now that you don’t have to abide by those beliefs anymore. You needed them when you were growing up to help you to get by, to help you to survive. Well, you don’t need to survive anymore. It’s time for you to thrive.

And when you take full responsibility for all that’s great about you and stop believing all the “lesser” stuff, you most certainly will start to thrive.

You won’t fear success anymore. You won’t fear failure anymore. You will set big goals… and achieve them. You will make more money and have more success than you’ve ever had. You’ll be more fulfilled, satisfied, happier, healthier and excited about your life, your business or both.

So, think about what you’ve just read and apply it to your life. Make it real and it will make a difference.

If you want to be successful in life and in business, you have to focus on what you want and where you’re going, not on what you don’t want and where you’ve been. In addition, your attitude has to be “whatever it takes”. You have to be willing to go beyond your typical limitations and press on. When you have a whatever it takes attitude, business success is much more certain.

But now what?

Step 3 in this process is Responsibility. Simply put, you are responsible for everything in your life. The buck stops with you. It also begins with you. So if you don’t have the things you want in your business or you don’t have the money you want in your life, there’s a reason. And the first place you should check is where you haven’t been responsible.

Where have you let your circumstances dictate what you do and don’t do? Where have you let other people influence you and detour you or stop you? Most importantly, where have you stopped yourself? Where have you given up? Where have you made excuses?

You see, your number one responsibility is to yourself… always… no matter what.

You can’t avoid responsibility. Put another way, you’re always responsible… in every case… without exception.

THINK ABOUT THIS

Do you really believe that you are completely responsible for all of your decisions? If you believe that anything outside of you is responsible for the things you do, you’re a victim. If you ever find yourself complaining about the way things are, other people, your job, your family, your lack of money, happiness, joy, satisfaction, etc., you should take a look at what decisions you’ve been making. The point is, if you find yourself complaining, ask yourself, “Why would I be complaining about the decisions I make?” Usually it is because if you complain about your situation, you don’t have to do anything about it. You don’t have to be responsible. Being responsible or not being responsible is a decision.

There is a very big pitfall to watch out for. You can become responsible about being irresponsible. But, that still makes you irresponsible. If you say things like, “I know I’m overeating, but”… “I know I am smoking, but…” “I know I am not keeping my word, but…” That’s like saying, “I know I am being irresponsible now, but…” When you do that, you are manipulating yourself and a victim to yourself and that leaves you powerless.

So, do yourself a favor and from this moment on, take responsibility for your life and/or your business. Since there’s no escaping from it, you might as well be proactive and save yourself a giant load of stress and make your business a success easier and faster.

The second step to being truly successful is having a whatever it takes attitude. Notice I did not say a, “once in a while attitude” or a “maybe I’ll do it attitude”. The reason is that true champions don’t give up. They persevere through thick and thin. They keep going no matter what.

And what is the fuel that drives their actions?

Their attitude. The way they look at themselves and the way they look at the world and the way they look at their skills, talents and abilities is paramount to their success.

It explains why some people who have every adversity against them in business are motivated and inspired to succeed anyway. It explains why others fail over and over again despite having everything going for them in terms of finances and opportunities, etc.

So, how do you turn your attitude into a winning one? How do you develop a whatever it takes outlook?

Very simple.

You make a decision right now that you’re not going to be stopped anymore by your circumstances. You make a decision that you’re going to reach your destination. You focus on it and you allow no other possibilities of failure to take over. In other words, failure is not an option.

Now, if you read that and say to yourself, “That’s easy for him to say, but I can’t do…” and then you proceed to list all the reasons why you can’t succeed in business or in your life, you’ve defeated yourself before you even have a chance.

The bottom line is this. Your attitude is completely up to you. At the end of the day, you know if you gave up, settled, sold-out on yourself and your dreams. You know if you made excuses. And if you do justify your dreams away, it is completely your responsibility.

I’ll talk about that in Success Is A F.A.R.C.E. (Part 3).

All successful people have certain things in common. Whether they’re in business or not, it doesn’t matter. The principals I’m going to share with you will motivate you and inspire you and propel you forward in your life and your business.

I named this blog post success is a F.A.R.C.E. because it’s an acronym. FARCE is:

Focus

Attitude

Responsibility

Commitment

Execution

So, let’s take a look at the first one in some detail.

First, what you focus on is what you tend to manifest. The more energy you put into something, the quicker it usually comes together. The key is to always focus on what you want and where you’re going, not on what you don’t want and where you’ve been.

So, if you’re in a negative situation now and you keep focusing on the negative, then you’ll end up with more negative outcomes. Focus on the solution to the problem, not the problem and watch how quickly things start to turn around.

Also, focus on one thing at a time. Why? Because if you get too distracted, nothing will get done properly because you’ll be too busy running around and getting little bits of everything done, but nothing major accomplished. Putting it simply, the Chinese have a saying, “If you chase two chickens, you’ll starve.”

Focus on one until it’s done. Focus on what’s in front of you to do. When you’ve completed that section, you can move on to the next item.

The power of focus to help your business grow can’t be overstated. Just as the power of sunlight through a magnifying glass get’s so hot on a piece of paper that it will burn it up, so too will the power of your focus.

So, if you’ve got a bunch of ideas and you want to get them going, pick one of them and work at it until it’s complete. You’ll feel a lot better and you’ll get much more done and you’ll have a better time doing it.
